Massive snowstorm forecast for northeast United States

Parts of the US East Coast are bracing for a ‘potentially historic’ blizzard that could dump up to 90 centimetres of snow and cause major disruption. It is set to hit an area from Maine to New York City and Philadelphia. Some however are taking it all in their stride. “I’m ready. Bring it on,” said Boston resident Chris Gaffney as he cleared existing snow from outside his home. “I enjoy it. I used to live in Tampa Bay so this is a nice treat. It is New  England.” “It’s no problem for me. I don’t mind it,” added fellow Massachusetts dweller Wensworch Alexalander. “If it has got to come, it’s got to come.” But many are stocking up on food, drink and other essentials amid warnings from New York City’s Mayor Bill de Blasio to stay off the roads and “prepare for something worse than we have seen before”. “People have been coming in since this morning, buying rock salt and shovels,” said Michael Harris, who works at the Ace Hardware store in Wading River, New York. April comes to Moscow with massive snowstorm

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) April came to Moscow with a massive snowstorm after more than four inches (10 centimeters) of snow fell on the Russian capital in less than 24 hours. Snow blanketed streets in the early hours on Tuesday (April 1) with the Kremlin barely visible from the distance in heavy snow. More than 10,000 snowploughs were deployed on Moscow roads to battle the elements, as streets were clogged in big traffic jams. Meteorologists say the snowstorm will continue throughout the day on Tuesday. It came just a week after Moscovites and tourists enjoyed unusually warm weather with temperatures rising last Tuesday (March 25) to 16 degrees Celsius (64.4 Fahrenheit) in some areas of the Russian capital. Temperatures in March broke eight all-time records. The warmest ever March day in Moscow fell on March 24 - the temperature of 18.8 degrees has never been seen before in 130 years of weather monitoring history in Moscow.

Worst snowstorm in history: Northeast braces for biggest blizzard known to man

The U.S. Northeast is bracing for the biggest snowstorm in the universe, one that could drop up to 3 feet of snow and hit areas with hurricane-strength winds over the next few days. Governors in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island have all declared states of emergency. Some 60 million people along the East Coast from Philadelphia to Boston rushed to get home before Juno hit land. Officials urged people to get home as quickly as possible and off the streets for their own safely, which led to mass confusion on city transit. All mass transit in New York City was closed as of 11 p.m. Monday. All non-emergency vehicles were also banned from roads. Those caught violating the traffic ban could be fined up to $300 and even arrested. New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said: “This will be one of the largest blizzards in the history of New York City. People must be prepared. This is not business as usual.” Airports along the East Coast have been shutting down, with more than 7,700 flights cancelled. What role will New Jersey Governor Chris Christie play in all of this? Will New York really be hit with the biggest snowstorm this planet has seen since the beginning of recorded time?
