Audre Lorde - The Electric Slide Boogie

New Year's Day 1:16 AM and my body is weary beyond time to withdraw and rest ample room allowed me in everyone's head but community calls right over the threshold drums beating through the walls children playing their truck dramas under the collapsible coatrack in the narrow hallway outside my room The TV lounge next door is wide open it is midnight in Idaho and the throb easy subtle spin of the electric slide boogie step-stepping around the corner of the parlor past the sweet clink of dining room glasses and the edged aroma of slightly overdone dutch-apple pie all laced together with the rich dark laughter of Gloria and her higher-octave sisters How hard it is to sleep in the middle of life. MARCIA GRIFFITHS live @ Main Stage 2010

Marcia Griffiths is one of greatest divas in reggae history: as a female artist at Studio One she produced some of the biggest singles in the labels history such as ‘Feel Like Jumping’, ‘Really Together’ and ‘Truly’. Her work on this legendary label was encapsulated in the magnificent album ‘At Studio One ‘. In addition to an excellent solo career, she continued working in Jamaica alongside producers like Harry Johnson and Sonia Pottinger. Marcia also had the privilege of accompanying Bob Marley on his great artistic adventure as a member of the I-Threes, the trio backing vocalists that constituted a very important part in the sound of the Wailers. In the 1980s she became hugely success with the single ‘Electric Boogie’ and during reggaes digital era working with Donovan Germain. Her show two years ago at the Festival demonstrated how fantastic her voice still sounds. 17* Rototom Sunsplash 2010 Peace, Love & Reggae Aug 21-28 Benicàssim Spain www.rototom.tv

MARCIA GRIFFITHS live @ Main Stage 2008

Nel corso degli anni ottanta registra gli albums ‘Rock my soul’ e ‘Love to the music’.

Jock's Juke Joint Vol1

Available via paypal worldwide via http://www.lewishamiltonmusic.com/SHOP.html Jock’s Juke Joint is an exciting and varied collection of contemporary Scottish blues music. The blues in Scotland has always produced passionate performers, from pioneers Alex Harvey, Tam White and Frankie Miller to Blues N Trouble, The Nimmo Brothers and Dave Arcari. This collection of original recordings showcases the new wave of Scottish Blues, its creative strong song-writing. From the Highlands to the borders and beyond, these are great new blues acts with prominent Scottish members, appearing in festivals, clubs and pubs. Based on the theme of a fictitious Scottish Juke Joint, this collection features everything you’d wish to hear in such an establishment. There’s the fine whisky soaked vocals of Stevey Hay and Paul Muir, the grit and smoulder of Laura May Gibson and Helen Turner. Hear the classic electric guitar playing of Al Brown and Iain Gibney and the blues slide of Lewis Hamilton and Gus Munro. There’s the acoustic country picking of Sleepy Eyes Nelson and Lovat “Houndog” Fraser contrasting with the harder edged blues-rock of Gerry Jablonski and Willie Logan. There are wailing harmonicas by Fraser Speirs and Paul Montague, Kirk Lothian’s Hammond organ and some honky-tonk piano by Richard Young and Craig Arnott. The Yahs boogie, while Ruff Cut shuffle; hear Frank O’Hagan’s political musings, Dana Dixon’s tender ballad and Gary Martin’s love song. Whatever your taste in blues, there is something to appeal on this CD. Prior to its release, the CD has already garnered international interest, and Paul Jones from BBC Radio 2 has stated he is “eagerly looking forward to receiving this very significant album”. Dave Arcari has written about the CD, “it’s great to see a wide range of original blues and blues based material coming from a fantastic bunch of Scottish artists, who will no doubt make their presence known further afield. Recorded in Toronto with the love, support and musical input of her brother Logan, the album proved a classic debut, brimming with authentic country and roots songs born of a nation that has a long and distinguished history of producing such talented artists. Moving to Melbourne was something of a risk, but it paid off almost immediately. Tracy worked hard, playing solo shows all across the formidable musical city that is Melbourne, gaining the respect of her peers and critics alike, along with an ever growing fan base. She quickly became an integral part of the Melbourne music scene. Something of a masterstroke started out in the most humble of ways when Tracy joined local singer songwriter Jordie Lane to form Fireside Bellows. The release of No Time To Die, a stunning album on all fronts, came in 2008. Showcasing their obvious musical chemistry and developing on a variety of influences, No Time To Die honours a mutual love for American roots music whilst staying true to the talents both artists have as individual musicians. The album, and the duo, rightly received rave reviews throughout Australia. After a sold out launch in Melbourne, Fireside Bellows hit the road, playing festivals including the Port Fairy Folk Festival, Boogie, the Brunswick Music Festival and Queenscliff, before supporting the Eilen Jewell Band and their heroes Old Crow Medicine Show at the Forum. After that long and successful run with Fireside Bellows, Tracy returned to her solo material with a pocket full of songs and a stellar band featuring Matt Green (electric/slide guitar, mandolin), Bree Hartley (drums) and Rod Boothroyd (double bass). The band has been honing their sound over the past eighteen months with a run of headline shows throughout Melbourne and supporting international artists Mary Gauthier, Tony Joe White and Australian sweethearts The Audreys. With three years past since the release of Room Where She Lives, Tracy felt a follow up record was long overdue. In January 2010, the band headed into Tender Trap Studios in Northcote to record what would become her sophomore album Fire from Burning. Tracy launched Fire From Burning at the Bella Union in Trades Hall on June 11th, 2011. http://www.myspace.com/tracymcneilmusic TUNE IN AGAIN TO BALCONYTV MELBOURNE!!!

RockSteady - The Roots of Reggae ( PART.3)

RockSteady - The Roots of Reggae (Part.3) Direção: Stascha Bader 2009 The rocksteady era of Jamaican music in the mid-to-late 1960s is considered a golden age because rocksteady's sweet, soulful vocals, romantic but often socially conscious lyrics and prominent basslines gave birth to reggae, which went on to capture the world. This documentary chronicles the coming together of rocksteady's surviving vocal stars - artists like the Tamlins, U-Roy, Ken Boothe, Leroy Sibbles from the Heptones, Judy Mowatt, Dawn Penn, Rita Marley and Marcia Griffiths - and some of the island's greatest players, to celebrate their greatest 60s hits, perform a reunion concert and celebrate that golden era. Think of it as a kind of Buena Vista Social Club for the great 60s architects of Jamaican music. It is also a beautiful portrait of Jamaica. In 1962, Jamaica gained its independence from Great Britain. There was celebration, optimism, economic growth and opportunity. Recording studios popped up all over Kingston and a generation of great singers and players emerged playing the tuneful, mellow music that became known as rocksteady - tunes like The Tide Is High, Rivers of Babylon and You Don't Love Me Anymore, No No No, which were so successfully celebrated by UB40 on their Labour of Love albums. By 1968, Jamaica's economic bubble had burst and social unrest took to the streets. As poverty, violence and political upheaval spread, rocksteady became politicised, upped its tempo and began to evolve into the music they call reggae.
