Following a collaboration with Drake on “Hold On We’re Going Home” and signing to his OVO label, take a listen to vocal and production duo Majid Jordan‘s debut EP, Afterhours.
The eight track EP is full of the sonic textures found in “Hold On We’re Going Home,” with reggae-infused guitar riffs and ethereal falsetto vocals on opener “Take Control” bringing to mind Drake’s arrangements. Afterhours goes on to also showcase a broader range of production and instrumental ability from Majid Al Maskati and Jordan Ullman, taking on a funky, deep-house feel with the synth-heavy “Hold Tight” and the darkened ambience of “Far Away,” which brings to mind Arca‘s most recent work for hotly-tipped newcomer FKA Twigs.
For just an EP release, Afterhours is an accomplished and mature work that incorporates a variety of sounds under an umbrella of velvetine vocals and understated production. Looks like Majid Jordan are ones to watch out for in the coming months – take a listen to their EP.
