A New Way Of Living' is the culmination of Australian producer Griffin James' hard work and dedication to creating glorious sample-based electronica. Whether it be touches of disco or flurries of drum machines, James' sound is truly his own and his upcoming seven-tracker is a joy from start to finish.
To whet your appetite for the release we have the premiere of 'Ellingfort Road' and this one bounces and floats through its six-minute run time. Delicate cymbals and shuffles open the track up before a steady 4/4 and elegant strings get teased in. It's summery, uplifting and a perfect example of what FIO is all about.
Francis Inferno Orchestra step up in Hour 2. The young Australian producer has already racked up a string of quality releases and drops a beautiful mix for Solid Steel. Opening on a New Age tip, we progress through music from Panoram, German Library music from Peter Ludemann & Pit Troja, a classic DJ Harvey edit, Mr Lee from 1990 and a soulful cut from Mass Production. All this plus a track from the new Francis Inferno Orchestra LP 'A New Way of Living' which is out 16th June on Voyeurhythm Records.

As long as Melbourne has had a house music scene, Francis Inferno Orchestra has been at the heart of it. Though now lives in Europe, the Australian’s sound is melody rich and tinged with disco dazzle when in the studio, while as a DJ he has an anything goes approach that turns up plenty of surprises. As well as co-running Superconcious Records, he releases on Let’s Play House and Drumpoet Community and has previously guessed on our Dekmantel Radio Show.
For his mix, he goes sublimely slow and serene to start with. Beautiful ambient pads, twinkling keys and swooning strings encourage you to day dream before gently persuasive drums pick things up. From there, it’s an unpredictable ride full of twists and turns that one minute serves up acid, the next tribal drums, then hands in the air house. Before the end there is a return of ambient and even slow motion funk gets dropped. With spring just round the corner, this is a perfect mix to take us there.
Chet Faker isn't the only artist celebrating their homecoming at next week's RBxBR011 event in Melbourne. London-based Francis Inferno Orchestra, will also make the long haul return to give us an exclusive DJ set.
The producer, born Griffin James, has had an accomplished two years living in the Old Smoke, recording his first album A New Way Of Living and launching Superconscious Records with likeminded Melbournian Fantastic Man. His latter co-creation has been platform to Zanzibar Chanel splinters Imhotep and Luis Cl, Swedish analogue duo Mount Liberation Unlimited and, most recently, some cheeky edits from both label heads.
Recorded midweek at an empty Dance Tunnel while helping himself to a couple of ice cold Quilmes lagers, Griffin explained, "the idea of this mix was to showcase a wide variety of music that inspires the direction of Superconscious, as well as the music I produce." It boils down his diverse appetite for quality, masterfully stepping between Mexican experimental music, whacky and cosmic Euro-disco, brutal Swedish techno and synth-pop sleaze – all in a matter of moves.

It’s been a year since Francis Inferno Orchestra’s last hit for Superconscious Records ’Harmony’ shredded it’s way into record bags across the globe, Now, twelve months on, he returns with his latest 12’ 'Oasis and A Time'. The A-side consists of two versions of the lead track ’Oasis'. The 'Celestial Body Mix’ which is a dreamy uptempo dance escape, and the 'Erotikk Mix' which gives a nod to early Italian DFC records and the sounds of Deep Forest. On the flip, 'Mating Rituals of the Eastern Suburbs' is a devoted chant to the humble inhabitants of the suburb of Burwood in Melbourne.
12" release - 27.1.2017
In the mix with Melbourne’s prodigal son Francis Inferno Orchestra, whose spent the last two years banking quality studio cuts in London. His most recent EP ‘Where Will You Be Spending Eternity?’ was self-released via Superconcious Records, which he runs with likeminded Melbournian Fantastic Man. Quickly becoming our favourite active label, it’s been platform to Zanzibar Chanel splinters Imhotep and Luis Cl, Swedish analogue duo Mount Liberation Unlimited and some loony house from András. A Fantastic Man EP is now in the works.
